I already gave a link to the site that explains how to install Garmin XT to compatible Nokia phone in the previous posting. However let me summarise the steps for you guys.
- Get these files:
- Get your desired map. For Malaysia, I recommend getting it free & legal from MFM. Download & follow the instruction. Get the gmapsupp.img file ready. You can also obtain free & legal Indonesian map. Just google for it but then rename it as gmapsup2.img. Save it in your PC first.
- Then connect your phone to your PC in mass storage mode. Install all files in Para 1 with same order. I installed mine in the memory card, to save some space for the phone memory. I hope you know the consequence of having apps in the memory card instead of the phone memory
- Transfer the maps to the same Garmin folder either in your phone memory or your memory card.
- Disconnect your phone from PC. Now using your File Manager in your phone, find GarminMobileXT.sis file from the root folder (/Garmin) or maybe in the root folder of the memory card (/). Therefore make sure you remember where did you installed your apps to.
- Put all your desired maps into /Garmin too. But remember that not all maps are free. If it is not free, you must get the key when you bought it. Else…again, ask Mr Google *wink* IINM Garmin XT can support up to 4 maps. Gmapbmap.img is already available & its the world base map. So don’t delete that. Or if you have more than one map, you can combine them all into one gmapsupp.img using sendmap or gmaptool (please Google for it).
- Once Garmin Mobile XT has been installed run it from /Menu/Installations/GMobileXT. It will prompt you for a 8 digit key (you will have this number if you bought it), else you can only use GMobileXT paired with a bluetooth GPS. So guys, go & buy the app for you to have the key…. (please don’t ask me for the keygen because I will not going to do that….Mr Google might have it tho’) *evil grin*.
- Once done, enable the built-in GPS at /Settings/System/Remote GPS. Select ‘Use Attached/Built-in GPS’. Enable and it’s all done.

Latest Garmin Mobile XT software as of 11th March 2009 is version 5.00.20. Info about the improvements from v.20 to v.30 to v.40 is available here. But I don’t want to try it yet.

Cuma perlu ikut arahan pada Para 2 & 3 di atas.
Dapatkan map dari samada Malsingmap atau Malfreemap, kemudian copy gmapsupp.img ke dalam folder Garmin dalam kad E71 anda. Itu sahaja.
nak mintak tlg…bole tak bagi step nak install garmin xt dalam E71 dalam bahasa melayu…tak brape faham la…mekaceh…
InsyaAllah…bila free sikit2 nanti saya buatkan…tapi senang sebenarnya. Sangat senang. Yang penting dapatkan nombor siri Garmin XT ni.

@ Azlan: Sepatutnya takde masalah. Selalunya masa first time nak detect signal memang lambat sikit. But lama2 makin cepat. Berapa lama tunggu nak dapatkan signal? Dalam building atau open space?

Saya dh berjaya install GarminMobileXT dlm e71 sy, tp takboleh nak open application. Lepas tu semua applications lain dlm memory card dh takde (erased) tapi file & gamba masih ada.

Straight forward sebenarnya nak install Garmin XT ni.
But make sure ada serial number tu ready. Tu penting.
Masa install 3 file utama tu make sure connect as Storage mode. BUKAN PC Suite.
Pastu bubuh maps yg berkenaan dalam folder Garmin.
Run sis file, isi no siri yg diminta & walla….siap.
Tried for couple of times but managed to get only the Garmin logo screen then nothing happen…! very frustrating laa…I installed all the three files.and tried both closed and open area n still nothing come out..mintak pak jamal tolong2 ushakan..
..and masa launching GMobileXT..no serial number whatsover being asked..
..btw mine is running on ver 400..

I think you need to uninstall Garmin XT from E71 using Apps Manager, delete all the files (the whole /Garmin folder) & do everything again. And please make sure to do everything step by step as written in the blog. Do not copy the files from someone else but do clean download & install. I experienced problems when using my very own installation files copied directly to my friend’s µSD.
how come when I wnna install the apps fromfile manager, it says file type not supported.? pls reply ASAP..

Hi Jamal..sy ade prob bile nak download file yg ketiga tu ( Garmin Mobile XT for Symbian s60 3rd edition, Ver 5.00.20). Bile bukak link dr situ trus tak tahu nak wat ape dah. Untuk 2 files yang lain tu ok jer..so sangkut plak spi cni. Harap dapat beri bantuan. Tq

salam jamal..wanna ask,how are we going to enlarge the map? i used Navigator 6210 before and we just use button 3 to enlarge n 1 to reduce.but it doesn’t happened with this e71.Cou u please help me.tqvm

salam jamal..i found it finally..ok camni cara nk enlarge map tu,senang je..bila kita dh buka map,just klik 2 kali button PALING BAWAH,PALING KIRI.sblah arrow tu.sbb nya,skrg ia adalah a,b,c..bila kita klik 2 kali baru ia jd 1,2,3.. so,bila dh klik button tu 2 kali,baru gunakan 1 n 3…tu je,let’s share.
Saya dah guna garmin xt dalam nokia N95 banyak kali dalam tempoh 1 tahun, tapi baru-baru ni tak boleh detect signal hinggalah sekarang, apa masalahnya
