Alhamdulillah, on the 4th of July me & my fellow backpackers arrived at Padang Bai, Bali via a ferry from Lombok after the extraordinary Rinjani climb. This is my first time in Bali.
Bali is famous but somehow, I didn’t feel excited having been to Bali. Climbing Mount Rinjani was our primary objective, and once fulfilled that, I am not sure about others, but I lost the zeal to shoot anywhere else.
After arriving at Padang Bai, we had to wait for more than 2 hours for our contact to fetch us. The drive in a small van with 10 people and 8 huge knapsacks was quite torturing. We arrive at Baruna Hotel in Sanur, near Ngurah Rai airport at about 11AM. The first thing I did was sleeping because I can’t sleep well on the ferry. I slept till 4PM!! It was one of the best sleep I had in my life.
Some of us already scouted the beach. Looking for ‘mermaid’ I guess *grin*. But the first thing I did was to have my delayed lunch. So I had my meat soup & satay at the nearby restaurant. Then I only realised that it is not easy to find muslim food in Bali. Well, at least not as easy as in Java. A lot of ‘babi guling’ around.
Well in Bali, we visited these places (please see the map):
- Jimbaran beach for sunset & dinner
- Dusun Banyubiru at Negara for the buffalo race
- Sukawati for a quick shopping – not worth the visit
- Tanah Lot for another sunset
- Cultural dance at Kuta
The following are some pictures taken:
There are many more pictures at my flickr. Overall, Bali would be a lot better if we managed to get good transport while staying there. The transport that we had somehow put off my zeal to shoot more pictures. I am not sure I’ll return to Bali as I haven’t find anything really extraordinary except the buffalo race in Negara.
What would be my next photo outing destination? Given the H1N1 epidemic at the moment, I prefer going to local destinations. Someone already mentioned Gunung Cantik in Cameron Highland……
