Geocities will be gone soon!

I have started creating websites since 1996. My first serious website was the website for my health office, Jerantut Health Office. It was created using Microsoft Frontpage, a simple WYSIWYG (plus Notepad of course) & was hosted at Geocities (a Yahoo! product). Recently I received an email telling me that Geocities will cease to operate real soon. It’s rather sad actually….

In this website, I share my experience as a young doctor serving the rural area in Pahang. I can confidently say here that it was the first website for a health office in Malaysia and the website was officiated by the Minister of Health that very time…..who is now has joined PKR :D .

I was slowly falling in love with public health when I created the website. I rarely want to tell people why I chose public health as my specialty because I also not sure why. I just like it. Love the interaction with people. Love going to many places and not to clinic or OT only everyday. But that is a different story…..not gonna elaborate about it now.

I created few other websites using Geocities including my medic alumni. But I do not what had happened to it & I even forgot the username & password. I just backed up the Jerantut website & hopefully one day I managed to create a website for my experience in Jerantut & Tembeling…..

To Yahoo! thank you for creating such wonderful free medium for us to show our creativity!

Just came back from Ulu Tembeling

Another trip to Kg Bantal & surroundings with the year 4 medical students. I hope they enjoyed & got benefits from the trip. It is a tiring trip for an old man like me. Slept early last night. However I believe such trip to see people in the remote area & to observe how health services are being delivered is important. I know that many other lecturers are reluctant to go because of its difficulties. No proper guest house & toilet there. One have to push boat when the water level is low. Leaving behind beloved family for days. No telephone connection unless for Maxis, and now DiGi.

When asked about feedbacks from students, some suggested the facilities to be improved. I told them that it in 5-10 years time it will be better. The wooden Pak Dali’s guesthouse will be gone……and so will all the environment. Guys, that’s the difficulty that those people in rural area have to endure. Therefore I hope we appreciate how difficult life is in a place like Kg Bantal.

Geng Jeram Perahu 2009

Alhamdulillah, 11 extraordinary people completed the adventurous 4 days phootocamp at Ulu Tembeling. The first 2 days were spent in Jeram Perahu. The support team was a strong 12 people which consisted of 10 boatmen & 2 cooks. The trip involved 1 big boat & 5 small boats. 3 big areas were covered namely Jeram Perahu, Lata Erak & Lata Menderu. Macro photography opportunity was excellent! The bugs were everywhere. Bizarre looking spiders & insects found at many places. The weather on the first 3 days was magnificent. It was raining heavily on the 3rd day but we didn’t really mind as we were already exhausted shooting too many photos.

As for me, I was occupied with my knee injury. The one sustained at Ulu Dong in May 2008. It is getting worse & an orthopaedic surgeon friend just confirmed that I had my co-lateral ligament sprained, meniscus torn & ACL partially torn. The pain was intermittent but it is more frequent. This can jeopardise my Rinjani trip come June!

He offered to do the reconstruction this month but I am a bit busy…..but with this pain every time I move, I must reconsider an immediate surgery!

I’ll post the photos….as usual…later :D But you guys can view the photo by others here.
